Picture taken on the 30th April 2007 near Aiguatebia, Capcir, Oriental Pyrenees, France, Catalonia, on a granite boulder, siliceous rock, 45 º inclination, East oriented, 1.600 m. altitude, well exposed.

Mentioned by Dr. Xavier Llimona at Aigües Tortes and Portella d'Arcalis (Historia Natural dels Països Catalans, Fongs i liquens) but not in the BDBC. Rare in Catalonia. It is the first time I see it.

In upland areas. The grey chemical race (f. subfestiva) may live together with the yellow-grey (f. ventosa containing usnic acid), curious. The next step molecular analysis. Is it worth ? Science for pure science ?. In any case, enjoy this very beautiful lichen.

Crustose lichen, thallus areolate, warted, grey (f. subfestiva without usnic acid, following Dobson), with clear margins and medulla P+ (var. ventosa following Clauzade & Roux), apothecial disc with blood colour, minimum thalline margin, up to 4 mms, scattered or crowded.

Medulla P+ red, K+ yellow
